Cutting Room Floor | Heavy Metal

by | Feb 11, 2015 | Weddings and Social

Cutting Room Floor is a chance for you to peek behind the curtain and see the ideas that, for whatever reason, never made it into being. It’s an opportunity to see just how we’re willing to dream for our clients. They’re ideas we’d really love to see produced. Feel free to take these ideas and run. Of course, we’d love to make them for the right client. Is it you?

I recently sent a couple a proposal for custom wedding invitations with several options, including this one. Some designers will include “filler” options in proposals – ones they’re not thrilled with, but will include anyway to make sure the client knows they worked hard on concepts.

I’ve learned not to do this. If you’re not thrilled with each concept you send forward, it’s usually the one you don’t love that a client will pick.

That’s why I sent this couple four designs I loved. While this isn’t the one they chose, I’d love to see another client bring this one to life! And I can’t wait for you to see what we’re actually doing for their invitations.

The concept here is pretty simple: a metal invitation (I’m a big fan of brushed aluminum) is screenprinted, laser-cut, and duplexed to a paper accent sheet, revealing a peak-a-boo that hints at things to come when the guests attend the wedding. The accent sheet may have a design element or additional details on the back.

It would even be fun to reverse this for the RSVP, placing the metal on the back of a paper RSVP (for practicality, the RSVP being paper makes it easier for guests to mark).

Of course, this could make a killer corporate or social event invitation too!

At a quantity of 100, such an invitation would start at around $40 per invitation.

If you’d like to have your own lasercut metal and paper wedding invitations, leave us a note and we’ll get started dreaming with you right away.
