Music Mondays: because life’s better with a soundtrack.
Last week, the jazz world lost a true giant. Pianist Mulgrew Miller passed well shy of 60 years old. He was a member of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and a sideman from some of jazz’s greats throughout the 80’s and 90’s. Perhaps my favorite project was Grew’s collaboration with bassist Ron Carter and guitarist Russell Malone – the Golden Striker Trio. The title track (seen and heard in the video above) is one of my favorite jazz cuts ever.
There’s also this hip tribute to Grew from Robert Glasper – One for ‘Grew.
Perhaps I’ll create a Mulgrew Miller playlist on Spotify this week. You’ll be missed, Grew.
