Sometimes I consider how much of the ritual of daily life has been lost to progress. The filling of a fountain pen. The honing of a razor. Watching the evening news.
Is this the future we were promised?
Those rituals provided the rhythm of life. Moments to pause and reflect.
The technology that was to free up our time to do the truly important things has led to more mindless consumption.
It’s why I think the big rituals are so important. The rhythm of life may be filled with more rat a tat, but the ritual of life’s big moments forces cesura…A moment to pause and reflect, even if it’s all too fleeting before the cadence resumes.
