I’ve been watching Discovery Channel’s Gold Rush and realized something:

Much like sailing, mining has given the American English lexicon quite a few idiomatic expressions. Hitting “paydirt” and waiting to see what “pans out?” Thanks to the gold rush.

I don’t know about you, but I find that amusing.
